Brazilian child identifies multiple asteroid candidates at age eight

A girl in northeastern Brazil has identified eighteen preliminary asteroid detections through analysis of sky-survey images on computer screens. At eight years old, she has systematically logged these candidate asteroids. If verified, she would become the youngest asteroid discoverer on record, surpassing a previous record holder who was eighteen at the time of discovery.
