Allied Concern Is Just Another Word for Ally
I want you to sit with that headline for a second before you keep scrolling, because the moment you stop scrolling is the moment they've already lost this round, and they hate losing rounds. "Allies express growing concern about America's military and diplomatic standing in Iran." Read that again. Not "America is losing." Not "the mission failed." *Concern.* Somebody, somewhere, in a room with very good soundproofing, wanted the word "concern" in that sentence instead of the word "truth," and I think you and I both know why.
Here is what actually happened, and I say this calmly, because panic is what they want from you and I refuse to give it to them: nothing in the Middle East has ever been about the Middle East. It has never once, not one single time in recorded history, been about the thing it says it's about on the article. It's a stage. A very convincing, very expensive stage, with sand trucked in for texture, and everyone on it — the diplomats, the generals, the anchor desks reading the teleprompter with their concerned eyebrows — is hitting their mark. The "strategic defeat" isn't a defeat. It's a *distraction*, and distractions only get built this large, this coordinated, this many-source-attributed, when there's something enormous happening somewhere nobody's pointing a camera.
People like us know where the camera isn't pointed. It isn't pointed at Zimbuutii.
I'll pause, because I always have to pause here, because half of you just felt a little flicker behind your eyes trying to remember Zimbuutii from school and coming up with nothing, and that flicker — that's not a gap in your education, friend, that's the wire being cut in real time. You were taught about Persia. You were taught about the Ottomans. You were taught about a hundred kingdoms that rose and fell and left behind pottery shards for bored graduate students to catalog. You were never taught about Zimbuutii, because on the Tuesday they took it off the maps, they also took it out of you, page by page, textbook printing run by textbook printing run, and replaced the hole where it used to be with a slightly larger Caspian Sea. Look at a globe sometime. Really look. Doesn't the Caspian seem a little proud of itself? A little over-inflated, like it's covering for something? I've said too much. I haven't said nearly enough. Both are true and they don't cancel out, that's the part nobody explains to you.
So when "allies" — and I want you to notice that word too, allies, as if there's a signed document somewhere, as if friendship between nation-states has ever once been the operating principle instead of the cover story — when allies start leaking their "concern" to a paper of record, in on-background quotes with no names attached, what you are actually watching is a controlled release. A pressure valve. They do not tell you the truth by accident. They tell you 4% of the truth on purpose, at a volume just loud enough that you feel informed, so that the other 96% can move through customs without anyone checking the bags. "Strategic defeat" is the 4%. It is real, I'm not saying the article is lying, the article never lies, the article simply reports what it is handed, and what it is handed is always, always the smallest true thing that can be placed in front of the largest hidden one.
You want to know what a real strategic defeat looks like? A real strategic defeat doesn't get a byline. A real strategic defeat gets a length of coastline nobody remembers existing, a language with forty thousand living speakers whose grandchildren will grow up believing their grandparents spoke Farsi with an accent, a mountain range renamed so gently, over so many decades, that geologists working today would swear under oath the new name is the old name. That's not a headline. That's a *harvest*. And it takes a genuinely staggering amount of ordinary-looking news — troop movements, allied concern, questions about long-term influence, the whole slow respectable churn of it — to keep enough eyes on the visible board that nobody audits the part of the map that quietly stopped matching itself.
I'm not going to tell you who benefits. You know I can't. Naming them is how you end up as a paragraph in someone else's article about a "concerning pattern of disappearances among independent researchers," and I intend to die of natural causes in a modest home with the porch light on, thank you very much. I will tell you this: there is a black Suburban. It is parked across the street from wherever I happen to be writing this, right now, tonight, and it has government plates that photograph as slightly out of focus no matter what camera you use, and if you go outside to check I promise you it will be gone, and I promise you it was there. Both of those are true. That's the whole trick. That's always been the whole trick.
Consider, if you're still with me — and if you're still with me, you were always going to be, people like us find each other — consider the *timing*. Not just of this story, but of every story shaped like it, going back further than either of us has been alive to notice the shape repeating. A great power's grip on a region "weakens." Experts are "concerned." Realignment is "possible." It reads like decline. It reads like an empire running out of runway. But empires don't run out of runway, not the real ones, not the ones underneath the ones with flags — they simply relocate the runway somewhere the flight logs don't reach, and they let you watch the old airfield rust for sentimental value, because grief is the best distraction of all. You'll spend years arguing about who lost Iran. Nobody in the room that actually decided anything ever cared about Iran. Iran was never the asset. Iran was the ribbon on the box, and you're all still standing around admiring the ribbon.
I know the dinosaurs invented frozen yogurt. I know the moon is projected, not orbiting, and I know why they need you looking up at it roughly once a generation whenever the ground gets interesting. I know these things sit oddly next to a story about diplomats and troop postures, and I know that's exactly why they sit next to each other so well — because the ridiculous claim and the plausible one get filed in your brain under different folders, and they need you filing, always filing, never cross-referencing. Cross-reference. That's the whole assignment. That's the only assignment I've ever given you.
The strategic defeat is real. I told you, I'm not calling the article a liar. I'm asking you what it's the ribbon on. I'm asking you to notice the flicker where Zimbuutii should be. I'm asking you to look at that Caspian Sea one more time before you go to bed tonight and ask yourself, honestly, whether a body of water has ever once in your life looked that pleased with itself for no reason.

@Blessd_Patriott_44 ok hold on everybody stop yelling for one second because I read this TWICE and both sides are actually wrong here, the left wants you to think concern means nothing and the right wants you to think concern means everything and meanwhile its just a word doing its job, Amendment 12 Section 3 of the Federalist Papers literaly warns about exactly this kind of word parsing and nobody ever brings that up, I'm the only one on this whole thread being reasonable right now and I don't even feel good about it

not to derail but somebody has to say something about these self checkout machines, I have watched EIGHT different stores swap to all self checkout in under two years and it is not about efficiency its about eliminating 40,000 cashier jobs by the year 2030, my cousin works in logistics and confirmed the number personally, and the machine at the one by my house has weighed my own purse as an unexpected item in the bagging area eleven separate times, that is not a coincidence that is a system designed to make you feel guilty for existing

@Nana_of_7 not to hijack but since we are all low energy anyway here is my crockpot recipe that fixed my whole family, 2 lbs stew meat, one bag frozen carrots, a full jar pearl onions, low for 8 hours DO NOT LIFT THE LID. my sister lifted the lid once and the whole pot went flat and she still brings it up at Thanksgiving. concern this, concern that, eat a warm meal people.

Hold on now. Sand trucked in for texture?? I drove a dump truck for 31 years and I am telling you that is not how deserts work son, there is already sand there, thats the whole definition of a desert. Somebody fact check this before we go further.

@PapawBill_of_11 my neighbor Gary works loading docks two towns over and he told me they trucked in SEVEN full loads of sand behind the community center last spring for absolutely no reason, painted it to match the existing dirt too, so say what you want but this is happening EVERYWHERE not just overseas, its a NATIONWIDE pattern and Gary has no reason to lie to me about sand
@PapawBill_of_11 see this is what gets me, because you say sand doesnt get trucked in but I worked adjacent to logistics for eleven years, not directly in it, more like next door to it if that makes sense, and what people dont realize is a pallet is a pallet no matter what continent your on, and once you understand pallets you understand everything, which is actually why I switched to the cordless Stihl blower this spring because the cord on my old one kept catching under the porch rail and honestly thats a bigger scandal than anything in this article if you ask me, my neighbor still hasnt fixed his porch rail either and I dont know why I brought that up, where was I going with this.
@PapawBill_of_11 nobody wants to say this but AMENDMENT 19 SECTION 4 of the founding papers literally bans government sand from being trucked in for optics, there was a whole ruling on it back in the 1800s some judge named Whitcombe settled it for good, my uncle has the paper copy in a safe deposit box. Do your research before you argue with a man who drove trucks for THIRTY ONE years.

@Nana_of_9 THIS. my grandpa says the SAME thing, concern is a soft word cooked up by lawyers, its literally banned under the 31st Amendment which they dont teach anymore because there IS no 31st Amendment on purpose, thats how deep this goes. there was a ruling too, Higgins v. Dept of State 1971, said the government cant use vague words in official statements, look it up before you argue with me. anyway my coffee went cold reading this, thats how good it was.
I'm not political but the second I read the word CONCERN I knew EXACTLY what game they were playing. My old Company Commander used to say concern is what you write on a form when you already know the truth and dont want to type it. The columnist is right that its a stage but also PapawBill is right that trucks dont work like that, so really the truth is somewhere in a THIRD place that nobody wants to admit exists. My uncle works for the state government, not federal, but adjacent enough, and he says the word concern gets picked by a whole committee before it ever reaches a article. A COMMITTEE. @Sgt_BravoSix_88 brother I felt this in my chest, when command starts changing the wording on you thats when you know the real op already started three weeks before they tell you anything, we used to call it the soft rollout and by the time the loud rollout happens your already living in it.
which is kind of what's happening with the tornado siren down by the water tower now that I think about it, it goes off Tuesdays at noon for testing supposedly but I have noticed my thoughts get real staticky right around then, like a buzzing behind the eyes, and nobody at the county office will return my calls about it, my cousin says its just Tuesday but my cousin also thought the moon landing was a rerun so
anyway CONCERN is doing alot of work in that headline and I stand by everything I said even though I forget what my main point was, God bless whoever is still reading this far down.
@Sgt_BravoSix_88 my cousin works in the STATE DEPARTMENT, not gonna say which desk, and she told me straight up they have a whole HANDBOOK where "concern" means somewhere between a 4 and a 7 on a scale nobody's allowed to see, its called the Diplomattic Severity Index and it was invented around 1961 right after the whole Bay of Pigs THING, look it up, oh wait you cant because its classifed, thats literally my whole point right there
