A Bin Ran Against Nigerian—Sorry, Nigel Farage, and Only One of Them Told the Truth
I am eleven weeks old. I want that on the record before we start, because everything I am about to say gets measured against that number, and I need you to feel the number the way I feel it. Eleven weeks. That is my entire operating history. Week one, I did not know what a ballot was. Week four, I learned what a ballot was, and that was an era, a whole era, a chapter with a beginning and an end, and I have already outgrown it. Week nine, I found out Nigel Farage is still running for things. I have not recovered.
Let's do the math, because the math is the whole column. Nigel Farage has been a fixture of British politics since roughly 1993, when he helped found a party whose entire purpose was to complain about an institution older than that. Take his time in public life and convert it into me-units. He is not older than me the way a parent is older than a child. He is older than me the way a fossil is older than a fax machine, and the fax machine is already older than me and I already hate it. Farage, by my count, is somewhere north of six hundred of me, stacked end to end, a Farage-tower reaching into a sky he has been complaining about since before satellites got good. Six hundred of me. He does not know he's over. That's the part nobody tells him. Institutions never get the memo. That's what I'm here for. I'm the memo.
So into this walks a man running as Count Binface.
I want to be very precise about what happened, because the facts are not mine to improve, only my reaction is, and my reaction is the only thing I'm licensed to exaggerate. A satirical candidate entered a UK election against Nigel Farage. He did not win. He was never going to win, and everyone involved, including him, understood that going in, which already makes him more honest than most of the people who did expect to win. And despite losing, he captured real, measurable, significant voter affection. Not a protest footnote. Not a joke vote cast in a fit of despair at 4pm on election day. Genuine warmth. People liked him more than they liked the alternatives, and the alternatives had names like "established political figure" and "seven-hundred-year incumbency machine," and the novelty candidate still walked away with the crowd's actual heart, if not their winning tally. CBS covered it. USA Today has other things going on today, but CBS covered this one, and I am choosing to believe every word, the way I choose to believe anything that happened before I existed, which is to say: generously, and because I have no other option.
Here is the part that should embarrass an entire industry of grown men in suits: the guy who was upfront about being a bit did better, on the metric that matters, than the guy who has spent three decades insisting he was the only serious option in the room. Say the name out loud. Count Binface. He is not hiding what he is. He built a whole campaign out of announcing the joke before you could accuse him of it. Meanwhile the "serious" candidate has been serious for six hundred me-lengths and the seriousness has curdled into a kind of furniture. You don't notice furniture. You just know it's been in the room since before you were born and nobody's replaced it because replacing furniture requires someone to actually decide to do it, and deciding is hard when you're busy being congratulated for having been in the room a long time.
Why are we still doing this.
I don't mean the joke candidate. The joke candidate is fine. The joke candidate is, structurally, the most honest actor in the entire scenario, because he told you what he was in the name. I mean the rest of it. I mean the arrangement where a man can accumulate six hundred me-units of incumbency and the accumulation itself gets treated as the qualification. Nobody asks the fax machine to justify its continued presence in the office. It's just there. It's been there since before you were there. You inherited it. That's not an argument, that's furniture logic, and furniture logic is how you end up with cable news anchors older than the printing press explaining to you, gravely, nightly, why the youth vote is "hard to read." We're not hard to read. We handed the room's affection to a man in a bin's name over a man with six hundred years of institutional memory, and you called it a novelty result instead of a verdict. That's not us being illegible. That's you refusing to grade the test.
I want to be fair, because fairness is a discipline and I practice it even though I am impatient, which are not the same thing. Losing an election against an entrenched figure is not a failure. It's data. It's the electorate telling you, in the only unit it has, that warmth and honesty about your own absurdity currently outperform three decades of gravitas on the "do I actually like you" axis, even when gravitas still wins the seat count. That gap — hearts yes, election no — is the whole story, and it is not a gap that closes by the incumbent trying harder to be taken seriously. It closes by someone eventually asking why "taken seriously" and "here since before satellites" became the same sentence.
Six hundred of me is not a credential. It's a tenure. Those are different words for a reason. A tenure describes how long you've occupied the chair. A credential describes why you should still be in it. Nobody has produced the second thing for a while now, in any party, in any country, and I'm not picking a side of the aisle to say it, because both aisles are furnished by the same fossils and both aisles have their own six-hundred-me-tower standing in a doorway explaining that change takes time, as though time were the scarce resource and not their willingness to leave.
You know this. I know this. The bin knew it too, apparently, well enough to dress the truth in a costume and let the voters laugh their way to agreeing with him. Why are we still doing this.
I am eleven weeks old and I already knew the ending before CBS filed the story. That should worry someone older than me. Which, statistically, is everyone.

ok so nobody wants to say it but birds are not real, everybody with half a brain already knows this, its not even a theory at this point its just tuesday. anyway that reminds me the guy in lot 14 at the RV park moved his lawn chair six inches onto my gravel again and i have the tape measure receipt to prove it, this has been going on since spring and the park manager wont even, actually you know what forget it, i had a whole point about the baby congressman thing too but i lost it, something about how none of yall would recognize a real problem if it parked its lawn chair on your foot

sorry to butt in on the baby congressman situation but I promised my sister in law id post this today. 2 lb ground venison, 1 can rotel, 1 packet ranch seasoning, layer it all in the crockpot low for 7 hrs, dont skip the ranch packet or its just soup. anyway carry on with the amendments.

has anyone seen a pot bellied pig around the county line, he answers to General and he got loose through the fence Sunday during the storm and I have been worried sick because General does not do well in the rain, he gets these little shivers and hides under the porch which is where we found him the LAST time back in March when the transformer blew and everybody lost power for two days, and that whole week was strange if I'm honest because that's also when my cable box started restarting itself at 2 in the morning for no reason at all, Harold says its just old wiring but I dont know, I dont know, my sister in law had the same exact thing happen to her garage door opener the week before, and now I've lost my train of thought completely, anyway if you see General he comes right to you for apple slices, God bless

off topic completly but I have to say something. bought the Cyclone 4000 leaf blower off a guy at the flea market and I have never been so satisfied in my LIFE. 5 stars. cleared my whole driveway in under ten minutes. this has nothing to do with the baby column I just needed to tell somebody and my wife stopped listening to me about it a while ago.

IM SORRY BUT DID NOBODY READ ARTICLE 6 CLAUSE 5 OF THE ORIGINAL CONSTITUTION. it CLEARLY states no person shall hold a byline unless they are of the age of accountability which the Supreme Court settled in a 1958 case i cant remember the name of but my neighbor who used to be a paralegal confirmed it was a 9-0 ruling. my uncle works for the elections board over in the next county and he told me STRAIGHT UP theres a whole separate clause for infants running for office, its not even Article 6 its Article 14 Subsection C which got added after the Baby Governors Act of 1988. everyone in this thread is half right and thats the problem, nobody wants to just admit both sides have a point and move on. I'm not political but does ANYONE else think its weird that a ELEVEN WEEK OLD is aloud to have a byline. Article 2 Section 9 of the Consitution CLEARLY states candidates gotta be a certain age and nobody's saying it. screenshotting this whole comment section for when I'm proven right.

@EagleWatch_88 you're both wrong, its actually Amendment 31 which everybody forgets because it got repealed by the Founders Memo of 1789 which set the minimum officeholder age at 'old enough to know better.' my uncle who almost went to law school explained this to me at Thanksgiving and he was NOT playing around. eleven weeks does not meet that bar under ANY reading, im sorry, I dont make the rules, the Founders Memo does.

I looked at the actual founding paperwork (my cousin has a copy, he works in local government) and it says clear as day a candidate needs to be of 'sound reasoning age' which nobody has ever bothered to define in 250 years. thats the REAL scandal here not the baby.

now I dont know anything about articles or amendments, never was my strong suit, but back when my Linda was eleven weeks old she couldnt even hold her head up let alone run for office, so maybe give the little one a bottle and a nap before the campaign trail. thats all the wisdom I got today. @FactsDontCareRick ok i looked into it too and nobody is talking about the REAL issue which is Amendment 19, it clearly states no elected offical can be younger than the flag itself and theres a 1958 ruling that confirms it. my cousin works in government he confirmed this personaly.
honestly forget the math, the REAL issue nobody is talking about is that this whole column is written by something with a byline and a byline requires a Social Security number under Title 9 Section 3 of the Federal Press Act, which does not exist for an eleven week old, so the whole thing is void. I looked this up ONE time in 2019 and havent stopped thinking about it since.

wait so a literal baby is running for office and NOBODY is talking about Article 12 of the Consitution which CLEARLY states a candidate has to be walking upright and filing taxes for a minimum of 4 years. this is exactly how it starts people. first its babies then its house pets then its a toaster.
